As leaders have been reflecting on 2022 and looking ahead, we thought we'd give you a sneak peek at top leaders’ 2023 New Year's resolutions! We hope this insight encourages you and allows you to feel less alone as we start fresh together to make the most of the new year.

Dr. Chawanna Chambers, Deputy Superintendent at Compass Rose Public Schools

Chae wants to put her values at the forefront, aligning her calendar with what matters most to her. She's hoping her purposeful time management will set an example for her team. Chae plans to also step out of her comfort zone by learning SQL and data analytics – skills that will surely benefit her in making informed decisions for her team.

Rosalind DaCruz, Superintendent at RISE Prep Mayoral Academy

Rosalind’s first resolution is to set a clear agenda, goal, and hard end time for all meetings that she leads. Her second commitment is to work on the work, rather than being caught up in the work, by delegating school-based issues and tasks to the principal to distribute to her team. This will allow DaCruz to focus on the bigger picture and ensure that the school is running efficiently and effectively.

Deyvis Salazar, Founder & CEO at Houston Classical Charter School

Professionally, Deyvis wants to allocate more time to strategic thinking. In all aspects of his leadership, Deyvis wants to be purposeful and make every meeting and conversation count. He's also hoping to live a more balanced and healthy lifestyle. We know he's not alone in that!

Ryan Dolibois, Superintendent at Yellowstone College Prep

Ryan is taking on multiple resolutions, including being proactive and strategic, tracking board member engagement, and using an organizational dashboard in leadership meetings. He's also prioritizing calendar management, ensuring he makes the most of his time and stays on top of tasks.

Kayleigh Colombero

Kayleigh Colombero, Founder & Superintendent at Etoile Academy Charter School

Kayleigh is focusing on clearly communicating her expectations, both in her professional and personal life. With an expanding charter network and growing staff, she recognizes that clear expectations are foundational in building an exceptional staff culture across campuses.

Paul Morrissey, CEO at Compass Rose Public Schools

Paul is adopting a servant leadership approach, pledging to be the "Zamboni driver" for his team – clearing obstacles and creating optimal conditions for their work. He's also making a conscious effort to ensure that executive team meetings are productive and impactful.

Jennifer Benton, Parent Liaison at Memphis Grizzlies Preparatory Charter School

One of Jennifer's professional New Year's resolutions is to improve communication with parents and guardians, a neverending goal for school leaders. She plans to accomplish this by holding regular meetings and workshops to keep parents informed about their children's progress and to address any concerns they may have. Benton also aims to increase parent engagement by hosting a Spring event and setting a goal of having 20% of parents attend. Another resolution is to raise $5,000 for the school's Parent Resource Center, which provides support and resources to families.
